Today was the tenth day of our first phase teaching practice, and it marked a new phase within the school as well. From today onwards, unit tests began for all classes. We reached the school by 9:20 AM and signed the register. Unlike regular days, there was no common assembly due to the exams. Instead, the prayer, pledge, and national anthem were conducted class-wise, maintaining a calm and exam-friendly atmosphere. The first period was allotted entirely for exams across all classes. Adding to the day’s importance, our general observation sessions also began today under the guidance of Swathy Teacher. Three student-teachers were observed during the second period onwards. I had no regular or substitution classes, but we continued with our noon meal serving duty at 12:15 PM, assisting the younger students during their lunch break. In the 7th and 8th periods, I had invigilation duty in class 10B for the Malayalam unit test. This duty gave me an opportunity to observe exam conduct protocols and student behavior during assessments. The day concluded with the national anthem at 3:45 PM, after which we signed the register and returned home.
On the eleventh day, we arrived by 9:00 AM and signed the register at the office. The school followed the same structure as the previous day, with class-wise prayer and anthem, as unit tests were still underway. The second period was dedicated to the unit test for classes 8 and 9, keeping the students focused and silent across the campus. During the third period, I had a regular Chemistry class in class 8B. I taught the topic “Earlier Attempts for the Classification of Elements” from the unit Elements and Compounds. The students were attentive, and the class discussion helped them relate to the idea of historical efforts in organizing elements. At 12:15 PM, we performed our noon meal duty as usual. I had a substitution class in 9C during the 5th period, where I engaged the students in a short recap of science topics. The last period was again used for the unit test, and the day ended with the national anthem at 3:45 PM.
๐ Day 12: General Observation – A Moment of Growth
The twelfth day of teaching practice was an important one for me. We reached school by 9:00 AM and started the day with the usual morning formalities. During the 4th period, I had my general observation in class 8D. I taught the topic “Ways to Reduce Friction” from the Motion and Force unit in Physics. I had prepared well with visual aids and relatable examples. The students responded actively, which boosted my confidence. Swathy Teacher observed the session and gave me positive feedback, which was reassuring. With this, all general observations for our group were completed. At 12:15 PM, we assisted with the noon meal distribution. I had no other assigned classes, but in the last period, I had exam invigilation duty for the Chemistry unit test in class 8D. The day closed with the national anthem and we returned home feeling fulfilled.
Today was the thirteenth day, and it was significant as it was the day of my optional observation. We reached the school at 9:00 AM and completed the morning formalities. During the first period, I conducted my optional observation class in 8D, teaching the Physics topic “Pressure and Its Effect on Surface”. I used simple language, real-life examples (like knife and brick), and visuals to make the concept easy for students to grasp. The class went smoothly, and the students were active participants. I received encouraging feedback for classroom management, clarity, and confidence. It was a proud moment in my teaching journey. Afterwards, we resumed our noon meal duty at 12:15 PM. I also had invigilation duty in class 8B during the 7th period for the unit test. The day wrapped up with the national anthem.
The fourteenth day had a different rhythm, marked by spirituality and calmness. We arrived by 9:00 AM and signed the register. There were no classes assigned to me today. A Holy Mass was scheduled at 11:45 AM at a nearby church, and all the teachers and students attended the service. It was a moment of peace and reflection, providing a break from the usual academic schedule. We returned to school by 1:00 PM and soon began the noon meal serving duty. The afternoon session resumed at 1:30 PM, but I had no further class or duty assignments. The day ended with the national anthem at 3:45 PM, marking a serene and reflective close to the week.
