📖 Second Week Stories: Teaching, Learning & Exploring

Day 6: A Day Dedicated to the Moon

Today marked the sixth day of our teaching practice. As always, we arrived at school by 9:00 AM and signed the register. A special assembly was held in observance of National Moon Day. The program began with the usual prayer, pledge, and national anthem. Students of Class 10 led the assembly, including news reading and a speech about the significance of Moon Day, which was both informative and engaging. A student also sang a Moon-themed song, adding a creative touch to the event.

To celebrate the day further, a quiz competition on Moon Day was conducted. The preliminary round took place in each class, selecting two representatives per class. The final quiz round was conducted during the third period. In the fifth period (1:00 PM), a drawing competition on the theme “നിലാവുള്ള രാത്രി” (A Moonlit Night) was organized in the science laboratory. Students from both high school and upper primary participated enthusiastically. The winners were later announced by the headmaster.
I had a substitution class in 8B during the 4th period, where I taught the topic "Compound" from the unit Elements and Compounds. As per our routine, we assisted with the noon meal serving at 12:15 PM. The school day ended at 3:45 PM with the national anthem, after which we signed out and returned home.

Day 7: Teaching Chemistry and Physics

On the seventh day, we reached the school around 9:00 AM, attended the morning assembly, and signed the register. During the 4th period, I had a substitution class in 8B, where I handled the Chemistry topic "Origin of Symbols" from the unit Elements and Compounds. The students were curious and engaged, and I was happy with the response I received. At 12:15 PM, we continued with our noon meal duty, where egg was served as a special item that day. Later in the 8th period, I had a Physics class in 8D, where I taught the topic "Frictional Force" from the unit Motion and Force. The students actively participated in the discussion, and I concluded the session with key points and real-life examples. The day ended at 3:45 PM with the national anthem, followed by signing out.

Day 8: Creating Awareness through Collage

The eighth day of our teaching practice started as usual with the morning assembly at 9:20 AM. I had no regular or substitution classes today, which gave me time to focus on our school-based activity. As part of EDU 11, we organized a collage competition on the topic "Empowerment of Girls" during the 4th period in class 8D. We had already received permission from the headmaster.
Before beginning the activity, we gave a short introduction about the topic, helping students understand the importance of women empowerment in society. We divided the class into seven groups and provided them with chart papers. The students participated with great enthusiasm and creativity. Their teamwork and awareness were visible through their presentations. After evaluating all the collages, we awarded Group 1 the first prize and Group 2 the second prize. This activity helped raise awareness among the students about the rights, roles, and power of girls in modern society. After the event, we carried out our noon meal duty. The school day concluded with the national anthem at 3:45 PM, and we signed the register before heading home.

Day 9: Recognition and Reinforcement

On the ninth day, we reached the school by 9:00 AM and attended the assembly at 9:20 AM. I had a substitution class in 9C during the 4th period, where I interacted with the students and made use of the time for general discussion and engagement. At 12:15 PM, we performed our usual noon meal duty. During the fifth period, we distributed the prizes to the winners of the collage competition held in 8D. The students were excited and appreciated the recognition. Following this, I had a Physics class in 8D where I taught the topic "Friction in Daily Life" from the unit Motion and Force. The class was interactive, and I connected the lesson to real-life examples, which helped students understand the concept better. The day ended with the national anthem at 3:45 PM, after which we signed out and returned home.

"From Learner 👩‍🎓to Teacher👩‍🏫: First Days of Teaching Practice" - 14/07/2025 to 18/07/2025

Our first phase teaching practice officially began on 14 July 2025 at St. Margaret's Girls High School, Kundara. Six of us from Baselios Marthoma Mathews II Training College were assigned to this school—two each from the Mathematics, Social Science, and Physical Science departments.

Day 1: A New Beginning at St. Margaret’s

The first day of our teaching practice at St. Margaret’s Girls High School, Kundara was filled with excitement and a little nervousness. We reached the school by 9:00 AM and signed the register. The school assembly started at 9:20 AM with a prayer, pledge, and national anthem.

Since it was the first day, we were given substitution classes to observe and interact. Seating arrangements for us were made in the school laboratory, which served as our resting and preparation space. There was a prayer before lunch at 12:15 PM, followed by a second prayer before the afternoon session at 1:00 PM. During the fifth period, I had a substitution class in 8D, where I introduced myself and interacted briefly with the students. I was also assigned another class in 8B later. The school day concluded with the national anthem at 3:45 PM, after which we signed the register and returned home.

Day 2: First Official Lesson in Chemistry

We began the second day of teaching practice just like the first—arriving by 9:00 AM, signing in, and attending the school assembly at 9:20 AM. Today was special for me because I had my first official class during the third hour (11:00 AM) in 8B. I taught the topic "Molecules" from the Chemistry unit Elements and Compounds. The class went on till 11:40 AM, and it was a great experience delivering a structured lesson. We also helped with noon meal serving from 12:15 PM onwards. After lunch, I had a substitution class in 8D, where the students introduced themselves. There were no other classes allotted to me today. After the national anthem at 3:45 PM, we signed out and returned home.

Day 3: First Physics Class and Meal Duty

On the third day, we followed the usual routine—reaching school by 9:00 AM, attending the assembly at 9:20 AM, and beginning classes at 9:30 AM. Our noon meal duty began at 12:15 PM, and today’s meal included egg. As per school tradition, there were prayers before and after lunch. I had only one class today, which was the eighth period (3:05 PM - 3:45 PM) in 8D. I taught the topic "Force" from the Physics unit Motion and Force. The class was engaging and interactive. After the final national anthem, we completed our register sign-out and returned home.

Day 4: Handling Two Subjects in a Day

We reached school at 9:00 AM and attended the usual morning assembly with a prayer, pledge, and national anthem. There were no classes allotted to me in the morning session. At 12:15 PM, we assisted in serving the noon meal, followed by prayers before and after lunch. During the 5th period (1:00 PM), I taught Contact and Non-Contact Force in 8D as part of the Physics unit Motion and Force. In the 7th period (2:25–3:05 PM), I handled a Chemistry class in 8B on the topic Atom from the unit Elements and Compounds. Today, milk was also distributed to the students by teachers. The school day ended with the national anthem at 3:45 PM, after which we signed out and returned home.

Day 5: A Day Without Classes

Today, a student union strike was declared, so no regular classes were held. Still, we reported to the school by 9:00 AM and signed the register. Since there were no classroom sessions, we used the day for preparation and completing assigned tasks at school. At around 3:30 PM, we signed out and returned home.
