On September 6, 2024, as part of our vocational education curriculum, we had the privilege of visiting the Ashraya Charitable Society in Kalayapuram-a sanctuary for the mentally ill, poor, widows, and children. Housing thousands of inmates, this institution stands as a beacon of hope and support in the community.
Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted by the superintendent, Varghese Sir, who gave us an insightful introduction to the organisation's mission and operations. Kalayapuram Jose Sir, the esteemed chairman, leads the organisation with dedication, overseeing the well-being of countless individuals who rely on Ashraya for shelter, care, and companionship.
Throughout the day, we had the opportunity to interact closely with the residents, gaining insights into their daily lives and sharing moments of genuine connection. In the afternoon, we organised several entertainment programs, bringing smiles and laughter to many faces. Additionally, we distributed small tokens of love-a collection of gifts that we had gathered to show our affection and respect.
Accompanied by our dedicated teachers, Akhil Raj S Sir, Vismaya Thomas tr, Shijini tr, and Sheeja tr, the visit was not only an educational experience but also a deeply moving one. The organisation generously provided meals, adding to the warmth and hospitality that made our visit truly memorable.
Reflecting on our time at Ashraya, we are reminded of the profound impact compassion and community can have on those in need. This visit has not only enriched our understanding but also strengthened our commitment to serving society with empathy and enthusiasm.
